Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation
Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) by the European Union came into force in February 2025, with the motive of reducing the environmental impact of packaging and supporting a circular economy.
As a Norwegian company within the European Economic Area, Moltzau Packaging is required to follow new guidelines as packaging producers. Some of the principles have been integral to our process of designing, developing and producing packaging for years already. For instance regarding packaging optimization, design for recycling, and reducing single use plastics (SUP).
PPWR ensures full transparency throughout the whole value chain, and the producer responsibility requires us to level up in terms of reports and documentation. For each type of packaging that leaves our factory, we are required to report a declaration of conformity. This increased need of documentation is something that we put a great deal of effort into, because the last thing we want is to have our customers worrying about greenwashing!
PPWR is supposed to take full effect in the EU by August 2026, while gradually increasing its obligations in the years to come. As of late July 2026, the incorporation of PPWR into Norwegian law is delayed.
Sustainability
When we design, develop and produce our packaging, we have the environment in mind, focusing on the whole value chain. Sustainability is one of our main tenets, and our company is fully committed to carton packaging. The carton we use is made from responsibly sourced wood fiber, from local, well-documented Nordic forests.
Moltzau Packaging holds a certificate issued by FSC®(Forest Stewardship Council®), which is audited yearly and strictly regulated. This assures that we adhere to the demands set by FSC, whose mission is ensuring sustainable forestry, taking into account both biodiversity and social aspects. The certification gives us the right to print the FSC® brand on packaging that uses FSC®-approved raw materials. Contact us for a copy of our full certificate or our Core Labour Requirements.
Food safety
Moltzau Packaging is one of the few suppliers that offer printed wood fiber based packaging approved for food contact. We hold certifications from FSSC 22000 and EK (Emballasjekonvensjonen).
We offer custom packaging made from fiber-based cartonboard, which can be tailored to the product’s requirements in terms of shape, size, barrier properties, and function. This includes packaging for dry, moist, and fatty foods. By using the correct printing inks and adhesives, we prevent migration and undesirable effects, ensuring that the packaging is safe for both the product and the consumer.
